Jog Falls, created by the Sharavathi River falling from a height of 253 meters (829 ft), is the highest plunge waterfall in India, Located in Shimoga District of Karnataka state, these segmented falls are a major tourist attraction. It is also called by alternative names of Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi

Beauty of Jog Falls:
River Sharavathi splits up into four different tracks which are named in accordance with their perceived trajectories. Going from left to right respectively in the picture, the names and the reasons for naming are:
· Raja (King): Named so because of its apparently 'dignified' and 'serene' fall.
· Roarer: This stream appears out of a mass of rocks, making a tremendous amount of noise.
· Rocket: Consists of a large volume of water streaming out of a small opening at a very high speed.
· Rani (Queen), also called Lady: The stream has a winding, twisting trajectory, said to resemble the movements of a female dancer.
How to reach Jog Falls:
Jog falls is an hour and a half journey from Shimoga city. Also, Jog can be reached from Sagar (30+kms), Siddapur(21kms) or Honnavar (60 kms). When you are coming from Siddapura take a right turn at a place called "Mavinagundi" which is few kms before jog. (You wont get this place if you are coming from sagar). And there are a few places where you can stay overnight. These places are run by KSTDC.

One day outing spot in Kanakapura taluk in Bangalore Rural district.The river is Arkavati. This place is about 90kms from Bangalore city. And en route to the Mekedatu and Sangama. This Sangama is a place where three rivers join. From Sangama Mekedatu is about 4kms away and bus service is available. Walking along the river or on the road itself is a nice experience. Mekedatu is a small rocky valley where the river flows. Beautiful place surrounded by wonderful forest.
About 16kms before 'Sangama' you have to take a left turn to the Yeleguri village to go to this waterfall. The waterfall is about 6km away from the deviation.
Expected crowd to be around 60-70 people on weekends and still less on weekdays.

ವಿಭೂತಿ ಫಾಲ್ಸ್, ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ

One of the numerous waterfalls of the Western Ghats. This beautiful waterfall is at few kilometers distance from the place Yana.
Along with the two huge rocks there is one more limestone rock structure (which is quite small in size compared to the giants) in the vicinity. When asked a localite said the waterfall got the name as Vibhooti falls because of this Lime Stone rock nearby.
Once the Vaddi ghats are over you can feel the humidity of the coastal Karnataka (Coast is few hours journey from here). One will have to take a deviation at a place called Mabagi. From here the water fall is around 3kms distance. Though one finds few houses nearby the tentage and food are the items one should pack.
When we visited this wonderful place we gave a visit to Yana also. To our horror we saw roads under construction till the foothill of the Giant rocks. In our previous visits we enjoyed walking on a small path in the thick woods to the place. One could not have imagined that there would be a road sometime in future to Yana. Road for a four wheeler. We believe it won't be long we have all the facilities of a picnic spot. Why people are so fond of facilities?

Take a bus from Sirsi which goes to Mattighatta,Devanalli via Hegadekatta.You will not get a bus which takes you near the waterfall you will have to walk the Vaddi Ghat after you get down at Vaddi cross or Yana

Alekan or alekhan falls is one the way to kottigehara from charmaDi. Its just next to the road before 4kms from Kottigehara.
This water just next to a small bus stop by name 'alekhan horatti'. Since being both very easily accessible and immensly beautiful it attracts people of all minds both nature aware and 'pollution creating kind'.

ಇರುಪ್ಪು ಫಾಲ್ಸ್:

This waterfalls is amidst of lush green Western Ghats and is located at about 50kms from Madikeri and 20kms from NagarahoLe National Park. This stream will later join river Kaveri. This tributary is called LakshmaNa Teertha who origin is in the Brahma Giri peaks in side the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary.
The other places of interest nearby are Brahmagiri peak, a place called pakshi-pataLa। Except the waterfall all other places are inside the wildlife sanctuary and need permission to enter the sanctuary. This waterfall is also known as LakshmaNa teertha falls.

This place in thickets of the Sahyadri hills of the Western Ghats is around 30kms from Sirsi and 35kms from Siddapura. Here river 'Aghanashini' running through thick woods makes a spectacular waterfall. The ksrtc buses will go up to a place called Heggarani. From Heggarani it is few kilometers walk.Jeep is the best mode of transportation anywhere in North Kanara. You can hire a jeep either in sirsi or anywhere your base camp is and take convenient drives.

There is motorable way to the waterfall.One of the numerous waterfalls of the Western Ghats. This beautiful waterfall is at 5 kilometers distance from the place Kigga near Sringeri.This waterfall though small in size when compared to the other waterfalls of the Western Ghats. But in beauty this one as pretty as others. Best season for visiting would be just after the rainy season.It is both good and bad as this waterfall is easily accessible through road. Good, the road makes the visit safe and fast. Bad news is that such easily accessible nice places are always crowded and crowded with "picnic going" crowd.Already this place is being spoilt. One can see writings on stone and lots of plastic bags thown around. pity!
